Shipping can be affordable!
**DISCLAIMER**
I am a VOLUNTEER. I donate my time to sharing these living legends, my gas to drive down the facility, and countless hours sharing these beauties online and answering questions. All of this happens between my full time job and family life. I spend mere minutes evaluating each horse, so sometimes my statements about temperament or estimates on height may not be accurate. I do NOT book shippers. I help adopters find others in their area to create a load. Adopters are responsible for booking the shipper. I can recommend shippers to use that are BLM approved. I support the BLM and the staff at Canon City 100%. They are amazing and caring people who only want the best for these horses. I am lucky to have the privilege of taking these photographs and sharing them with you. Please respect the fact that this is a privilege, and not a right. And if everyone is happy and understands these facts I hopefully will be allowed to continue doing this in the future
Canon City offers a rare opportunity to get affordable shipping, no matter where you are located. The BLM will pay the first 150 miles PER HORSE on the trailer (through a BLM approved shipper)! A normal shipper would charge at least $2-$3 a mile, per horse, making shipping extremely expensive... not to mention the trouble of finding a shipper willing to haul a wild horse. There are several shippers that are approved to work with the BLM. They charge a flat rate to rent the entire trailer... no matter how many animals are on it. Right now the trailer is approved to haul up to 10 horses.
*EXAMPLE* *EXAMPLE* *EXAMPLE* *EXAMPLE* *EXAMPLE* *EXAMPLE* *EXAMPLE* *EXAMPLE*
Horses are located in Canon City, CO. The adopters are in Raleigh, NC. That is an estimated distance of 1700 Miles.
So- Lets say there are 8 horses on the load. 8 Horses x 150 miles each paid by the BLM = 1200 miles free. That means 1200 out of the 1700 miles are paid for by BLM. 1700-1200=500 miles the adopters are responsible for. Lets say the shipper charges $3.50 a mile. That is 500 miles x $3.50 = $1750, Divided by 8 adopters is $218.75 per person. THAT IS 1700 MILES FOR ONLY $220 PER HORSE!
Again- This is an EXAMPLE. The shipper may charge more or less for the mileage. And it is all directly related to how many horses are on the trailer. The more horses, the better the rate. Again... I DO NOT BOOK THE SHIPPER. It is the adopter's responsibility to book.

TO ARRANGE A LOAD TO BE SHIPPED: There are certain requirements.
- Someone experienced with wild horses has to volunteer to be a "ring leader" at the drop off/pick up location. They are responsible for meeting the shipper and handling the horse's paperwork to give to new adopters. They are also responsible for helping adopters sort and load their horses. The shipper WILL NOT just unload horses at a stock yard and leave them there unsupervised.
- ADOPTERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BOOKING THE SHIPPER! I can recommend the approved haulers to you, but it is the adopter's responsibility to book the load. I do not meet the hauler at pickup or drop off... so an adopter has to book the haul.
- There has to be a central location that meets BLM requirements to unload horses at. The shipper will NOT go to 10 different properties to drop horses off. This means corrals with 6' fences, and preferably chutes or an alleyway to load horses in your trailer. Stock yards with high enough fences are perfect.
- If you want a halter put on your horse, you have to mail one back to BLM with your paperwork. They will halter before shipping if you provide the halter.
- Remember: These are WILD HORSES... They will not lead, they will most likely not load happily in a trailer. Loading chutes or round pen panels and experienced people to help load are a MUST!
Upcoming Hauls
To be determined
**DISCLAIMER**
I do not set up these hauls myself! I photograph and promote these horses and help adopters find others in their area. I can recommend you a hauler that is approved to work with the BLM. Adopters are responsible booking their shipper.
